Presentation 1: Victorian Era Crime & Criminals, Jack the Ripper
This was my very first group presentation in Writing 37. I worked with
"District 1" with group mates Adrian Latosquin and Omar Contreras. We
researched the Victorian genre by exploring the crime and criminals of
this time. In doing so, we learnt about the safety, crime rates, police
incompetence, types of punishments and Jack the Ripper case.
My responsibilities:
- Do research on the knowledge of public about crime and criminals
- Find differences between the East End versus the West End
- Find differences between the city and country
Successes:
- The presentation was simple and organized.
- We related the topic to "Hound of the Baskervilles."
- Group members were willing to help each other out.
- The audience liked the powerpoint as well as commented on our appropriate body language.
Failures:
- We put the image URLs on each slide, this was quite distracting.

Presentation 2: "The Red- Headed League"
For this presentation I switched into a group called "No Names" with
group mates Jacqueline Cuateco, Nadia Raymundo and Marc Orbe.
The two main points of this presentation were to summarize the important
events that took place in the short story "The Red- Headed League" and
provide three insightful excerpts from the story. We also related each of
the excerpts to the scholarly texts we were reading at the time. My group
decided to perform a skit based on the story to make the presentation more engaging.
My responsibilities:
- Write the skit.
- Facilitate the group.
-Play the character of Watson in the skit.
Successes:
- The skit was engaging and the audience seemed to enjoy it.
Failures:
- We didn't practice much before presenting the skit. As a result, it didn't look as clean as it could have.

Cinematic Elements Wiki Presentation:
For this presentation I worked with "Group 4" with team mates Roger Quinonez,
Katie Lam and Kimberley Dang. This presentation included research about cinematic
elements we have been researching for the past week. My group had to explain cut
in/ cut away, three point and high key lighting as well as flashback to other classmates.
For the second part of scene analysis, we chose a scene from "A study In pink."
My responsibilities:
- Do research on cut in.
- Do research on cut away.
- Collaborate with the group to make the powerpoint.
Successes:
- We found good examples of cinematic elements from the movie Sherlock Holmes and T.V. episodes of Elementary and Sherlock.
Failures:
- All group members weren't present during the making of the powerpoint. So, the collaboration experience was not that good.

Victorian Era Class Wiki:
For this wiki assignment, the class focused on scaffolding the Victorian Era. Some of the many topics included Victorian Empire, socioeconomic classes, science and medicine etc. My group and I did research on the crime and criminals of this time. For my part, I targeted the differences in crime rates between the different regions of Victorian London. To curate my work, I added white space between the pictures and hyperlinked important topics, and added captions for the pictures. |
Cinematic Elements Wiki:
For this wiki assignment, we studies the different types of cinematic elements that film makers use to enhance or focus on a particular object/ character in a scene. As a class, we studied many types of lighting, camera angles etc. For my individual work, I researched about cut in and cut away and found examples of these two elements from A Study in Pink. In order to demonstrate the conventions of a wiki, I curated my wiki by adding hyperlinks, white space and captions below the pictures. |
