Description: The main point of this essay was to review what scholars, such as Leroy Panek, George N. Dove, and TJ Binyon, have written about the conventions and the classical phase of the detective genre. My essay focused on why the above literary critics offered several
reasons for the popularity of Doyle and Holmes, including the incompetence of
the Victorian police force, the readers’ growing interest for education and the
rise of the middle-class as a reading audience etc. In order to identify when the detective genre was developed and became popular, I included specific and well- chosen excerpts from the Conan Doyle texts that exemplified the points I needed to develop.

Marc's Peer Review Prof. Haas's Revision Comments
Revision Strategy:
After reading several
comments from my peers and the professor, I knew exactly how to modify my rough
draft into a better essay. As you can see in Marc's comments, he recommended that add at least one more scholar to most of the body paragraphs so that the overall content had sub points with the opinions of more than one scholar. As you can see in Professor Haas' comments, she advised me to introduce the all the literary critics in the introduction paragraph so I don't have to keep using their full names over and over again. Also, both reviews suggested that I add transitions to the essay. Keeping all the tips in mind, I came up with the following revision strategy, which corresponds to the final draft of my essay.
- Added more scholarly text to have a solid base for the essay
- Added introductions for the authors
- Made the essay flow by using more transitional sentences
